As we reflect on Teacher Appreciation Week, I would like to ask: Which teachers have impacted your life? I would also like to honor a few teachers who have significantly influenced mine.

Mrs. Ruth Wilson was my fifth-grade teacher. She had a unique way of keeping education fun and engaging at that age.

I would also like to mention Mrs. Peggy Van Dyke, my high school English teacher; Mr. Allen Ritter, my high school agriculture teacher and FFA advisor; and Mr. Jon Montgomery, my high school band teacher. All of these teachers consistently pushed us toward excellence and helped us achieve it.

Having served for 17 years as a school board member, I have always maintained that teaching is one of the noblest professions and has the power to change our society for the better.

This doesn't mean we don't have work to do in Springfield and Washington to improve our children's education, but we certainly have many good teachers to honor and appreciate.

Homeschool teachers r good also - bc we educating our children what they need to know not what the world wants our children to know - Jacque Yes I did I have some great teachers in Carmi

Your teachers have to be so proud of you!!!

Mrs. Carolyn Grahn was likely the most influential teacher at old North Clay High in my opinion.

probably my most influential teacher was in high school at flora, it was Mr. John Upton his building trades class taught me than just how to build a house, it taught you work ethic how to work together as a team on a job. I never became a house builder but I did become a home owner and things I learned in his class I still use today . if I would not have learned these things . it would cost me a fortune, thus is why we need more trades classes back in school especially now that colleges and universities are so outrageously expensive. when you can go into a apprenticeship program and start making a good living wage on day one. this is why I am now a school board member.

What band instrument did you play? Were you in the marching band??

Mrs. Douglas from Jefferson High School. She taught honors English and I adored her! She had a love for teaching and others. She had to leave due to cancer, which broke our hearts!

I remember all of those although I was a few years behind you. There were several very good teachers at north clay.

I served with Allen Ritter in the IAVAT, Ag teacher professional organization and I agree that Allen was focused on helping kids. I believe Ag Education is a little unique in the tools we have to educate.

Mrs. Peggy Van Dyke was the very best!!!

Dr. Stahl who inspired my interest in Social Studies & politics at the age of 12. He commanded respect & demanded we pay attention to everything.

When my son went to school down there he would have never graduated if it wasn’t for Ms. Cookie. She was the best she showed them kids and taught those kids more then anyone else could do. She had more patients then any one could ever have. She put up with a lot I am sure of it.

I had many good teachers in the Newark, Il schools. Ag teachers, physics, chemistry, and math. One algebra teacher, Mr. Gilbertsville, taught that Algebra didn't necessarily have to do with numbers, but it taught how to solve a problem. Never forgot that!!

I loved my 1st grade teacher. Mrs Yates. She’s passed now. I had an amazing English teacher in HS that really impacted me. I’ve never forgotten her.

In grade school it was 1st and 2nd grade Mrs. Leach, 3rd and 4th grade Mrs. Dawkins, and Miss Delaney high school English and Mrs. Verdie Cox high school math

Mrs. Wilson and her daughter Jean Porter. They was my 5th grade and 3rd grade teachers.

Mrs. Tunison, 2nd grade teacher from White Hall Elementary School was a favorite. She showed me extra love as a little girl and always encouraged me to excel in my grades, and Mr. Ron Martin, high school English teacher at North Greene High School. Loved them both!

I am a teacher because of Mrs. Shields, Mrs. McCord, and Mrs. Kirby!

Mrs. Lisa Sackrider . She was my daughter's Kindergarten teacher when she was diagnosed with cancer. (her very 1st yr teaching) Lisa went above and beyond what any teacher would do for my little girl! She made sure her classroom was always clean and sanitized so it was safe for her to come to school. Her class video chatted on days that she was too sick to go. She even put together a Pep Rally in support of her and the entire school joined in. Even bought her the American Girl Cancer Doll. We are proud to say Olivia is 17 and 11yrs cancer free. Lisa will ALWAYS hold a special place in our hearts!!

There were several great teachers in junior high and high school, but the ladies that really stand out in my memory were in elementary. I always felt valued and appreciated by each one of these teachers. Thank you for your dedication & for making such a lasting impression! Mrs. Terri Webb Wolfe, 1st Mrs. Terri Hardman (Barche), 3rd Mrs. Pat Gillenwater, 4th Mrs. Ruth Wilson, 5th

Mrs. Hopkins (from up North), Mrs. Workmen, Mr. Ed Dawkins, Mrs. Lancaster, so many of my teachers at North Clay. Also one very special thank you to Pamela Gish Greenwood THE teacher I wish I could of hired to teach my girls from kindergarten to senior year.

Debra Korte Mary Walker my third grade teacher, my FFA advisor & AG Teacher and Cathy Emberton my Home Ec teacher in High School. In college Maria Boerngen she has the best attitude and love of teaching students!

Mr. Alan Zuber & Mrs Barbara Harrison β€οΈπŸ–€β€οΈπŸ–€

My mother and grandmother's and great grandmother's!

Mine have already departed this earth but did leave a lasting impression on me. Ms Alta Austin. She read from the Bible each morning, she also read us books, a chapter each day unless it was in a spell binding place then she would read us two. She was very strict but fair. When she retired the school kids all brought money to buy her something. We bought her a pretty pitcher with glasses to match. She told us if we would stop by her house that summer she would make us some lemonade and use that set. We did just that and she was true to her promise. Mrs Flossie Kincaid. She taught me to read and encouraged me to take home a library book each day. She challenged me to see how many books I could read before the year was up. Mrs. Nellie Williams. Besides teaching all eight grades she stressed penmanship we all had a class of that weekly. She had my Mother buy my brother and I a musical instrument and as well as a few other kids parents bought for their kids and she taught us to play them. They were just cheap plastic ones but we made some pretty good music. One evening she took us to a meeting of some kind at another school and we entertained there. That was on her time and I'm guessing she didn't get paid extra for it. I went to one room country schools. I cherish those memories. I know this is long but you asked.

Mrs Beabout- 2and grade, Mr VanBlaricum-5&6 grade and Mr Rich 7&8 grade. Mr Hiffman English teacher in high school and had a math teacher I liked but can't recall his name.

Yes. Not everything goes the way we have planned. But I know I'm in God's hands and I'll continue pushing FOR TRUTH.

Hi Darren,I’m actively battling breast cancer right now and I needed to hear this today.Thank you and God bless you.

So needed this Darren. Thank you for sharing. Praying and trusting God has the plan for my youngest adult daughter then waiting has been hard for me. BUT GOD, has the plan, the timing etc. He is Trustworty!

Another example of God's perfect timing by having you share this!

The same devotion I read for today. I ask myself could any of us be honest and stand as long as Job stood?

I needed this today... God bless you and yours...Amen

I have had serious cancer twice and just recently diagnosed with AFIB I know GOD has a plan for me and sometimes I forget that. Thank you for reminding me today. For I know my GOD is mighty and wondrous!

Thank you Darren. I need to start reading my daily bible again. God Bless as always. ♥οΈπŸ™

This is exactly what I needed to read. Thank you for being obedient to post this.

Absolutely! I believe one of the biggest downfalls that we have is impatience. That's something I've seen in my life over and over , when I'm starting to get nervous or impatient God does something at just the right time. I can tell you of several times he's sustained us financially at just the right time it's amazing.

Amen!

Thank you for sharing!
