Every event is an opportunity to shake more hands and get to know amazing folks who are ready for change! Darren and I were blessed to spend quality time with a few of our grandchildren this week in Washington, D.C., for the Great American State Fair! It was so special to celebrate 250 years of American freedom in our nation's capital.

The more I talk to people on the campaign trail, the more it becomes clear that Illinois families aren’t asking for much. They want to be able to afford the ingredients for a home-cooked meal, fill up their gas tanks, and keep more of the money they earn.
But here’s a big one I hear a lot: They just want to feel safe.
Last weekend, seven people were killed and 40 were hurt in a handful of shootings in Chicago. These incidents break my heart, and they’re a painful reminder that too many people have to look over their shoulder in their own communities.
Every family in Illinois deserves to live in a neighborhood where they can walk their dogs or stroll with their babies without fear. Public safety is a big part of Darren’s campaign platform, and I look forward to the day he can get to work on the issue.

I couldn’t believe it when I read about this heartwarming baby falcon rescue in Aurora. After falling into the Fox River and being swept away by the current, the bird named Hope was rescued by a local resident.
Ed Bernal was downtown for a haircut, he noticed a crowd looking at the river. As it turned out, they were worried about one of the baby falcons that recently hatched outside Aurora City Hall. He sprang into action and used a towel to take hold of her and place her into a bucket before wading downstream to a set of stairs to climb out. From there, a group of local residents drove the falcon to a conservation center to be evaluated before transporting her back to City Hall. An animal control officer was able to get her back to her mother and the nest safely. |

I recently discovered the most exquisite coffee shop in Chicago, a true gem that inspires the senses. Cafe Deko is absolutely breathtaking. A must-visit for locals and visitors alike! Darren’s chance encounter with the owner in our apartment complex elevator led to this incredible find, and my first coffee was a complimentary gift. What an uplifting gift this month! Go visit the Printer’s Row location on Dearborn Street for a delightful experience. We are truly blessed to have the best small businesses here in Illinois.

God is so faithful, folks! When He says “every situation,” I can assure you He means it. This life is short and often difficult, but our Lord will always carry you through. Verses like this keep me moving forward in my faith—even when it feels like all hope is lost. Our trials on this earth are nothing compared to eternity in Heaven. |

It just wouldn’t be the 4th of July without my family’s favorite BBQ Meatballs! There’s something about the quick oats that give these a hearty texture—and the sauce is mouthwatering, so I always recommend doubling it.
